Product Overview
The Guardian and Guardian Wave are independent Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) stations designed to provide audible and vibrotactile crossing information to pedestrians at signalized intersections.
These stations operate as a cabinet-free solution that connects directly to the pedestrian signal head using a Signal Power Interface (SPI). The system utilizes a four-wire connection between the SPI and the pedestrian station, allowing installation without additional equipment in the traffic control cabinet.
Guardian stations provide locator tones, audible walk messages, and vibrotactile feedback to assist pedestrians with visual or hearing impairments when crossing the street.
The stations are pre-programmed at the factory for plug-and-play installation and can be configured using the PedConnex desktop utility or mobile application via USB or optional Bluetooth connectivity.
Guardian Accessible Pedestrian Signal
The Guardian is a fully integrated APS station that provides audible and tactile pedestrian crossing information using a traditional push button interface.
Key Features
• Independent APS design with no cabinet equipment required
• Four-wire system connecting the Signal Power Interface (SPI) to the pedestrian station
• Locator tone indicating the presence of the crossing button
• Audible walk message or tone during the walk interval
• Vibrotactile arrow indicating walk phase
• Extended press functionality for additional pedestrian information
• Quiet Signal Technology for directional audio output
• Automatic gain control for ambient sound adjustment
• Configurable using PedConnex utility via USB or optional Bluetooth
• Pre-programmed at the factory for simplified installation
• Compatible with 120VAC or 48VDC pedestrian signal cabinets
• Low power consumption suitable for RRFB and solar applications
• Optional audible beacon device support for destination beaconing
Guardian Wave Accessible Pedestrian Signal
The Guardian Wave includes all features of the Guardian APS with the addition of touchless pedestrian actuation.
An active infrared sensor allows pedestrians to place a call by waving a hand in front of the sensor, providing an alternative to pressing the push button. The sensor operates independently from the physical button, allowing either method to activate the crossing request.
Additional Features
• Active infrared touchless actuation sensor
• Hand-wave detection for pedestrian calls
• Adjustable sensor detection ranges
• Reliable operation in rain, snow, and harsh weather conditions
• Dual actuation methods (push button or wave activation)
System Components
A typical Guardian APS installation includes the following primary components:
