Guardian Duo Accessible Pedestrian Signal System
Accessible Pedestrian Signal system offering audible walk indications and vibrotactile feedback using existing two-wire infrastructure, up to 16 stations, wireless configuration, and Ethernet monitoring.

Product Overview
The Guardian Duo is an Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) system designed to provide audible and vibrotactile crossing information to pedestrians at signalized intersections. The system operates using the existing two field wires typically used for pedestrian pushbuttons, allowing fast installation while providing advanced accessibility functionality.
Guardian Duo stations provide audible walk indications, locator tones, and vibrotactile feedback to assist pedestrians with visual impairments. Stations may be factory configured for a specific intersection or configured in the field using the PedConnex programming utility through Bluetooth or USB-C connectivity.
The Guardian Duo system is designed to integrate with standard traffic control cabinets and supports remote monitoring through a network-enabled controller.
Guardian Duo uses a purpose-built powerline communication system designed to operate reliably across existing intersection field wiring.
System Components
The Guardian Duo system consists of three primary components:
Guardian Duo Accessible Push Button (APB)
The Guardian Duo APB is a two-wire accessible pedestrian push button that provides MUTCD- and PROWAG-compliant APS functionality. Each station provides audible pedestrian messaging, vibrotactile walk indications, and a locator tone to assist pedestrians in locating the crossing point.
Stations can be programmed wirelessly using Bluetooth or connected directly through the USB-C port for configuration and audio management.
Duo Controller
The Duo Controller is a cabinet-mounted 4-channel controller that manages communication between the traffic cabinet and Guardian Duo stations. The controller automatically detects button phasing and assigns station IDs during installation using the built-in discovery function.
The controller supports up to 16 Guardian Duo stations, with four stations per channel.
The controller also provides Ethernet connectivity for system monitoring through a web interface or network monitoring tools.
Duo Power Supply
The Duo Power Supply provides isolated low-voltage DC power to the entire Guardian Duo system, including the Duo Controller and connected Guardian Duo stations. The power supply connects to standard 120 VAC cabinet power and delivers regulated DC power to the controller.

Connectivity
Guardian Duo stations provide multiple configuration options to simplify deployment and maintenance.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Bluetooth allows wireless configuration of Guardian Duo stations using the PedConnex application on iOS or Android devices.
USB-C Connectivity
The USB-C interface allows direct wired configuration using PedConnex on Windows or Android devices. The USB-C port can also power the station during configuration, allowing programming prior to installation.
Network Monitoring
The Duo Controller includes an Ethernet port that provides a web-based dashboard for system monitoring and configuration. The system can also generate SNMP trap notifications for key system events.
Typical Installation Workflow
- Remove existing pedestrian push buttons.
- Install the Duo Controller and Duo Power Supply inside the traffic cabinet.
- Install Guardian Duo stations at each crossing location.
- Press the SET button on the Duo Controller to automatically detect station IDs and phases.
- Verify correct system operation.
RRFB Compatibility
Guardian Duo stations can also function as an Audible Information Device (AID) for Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) systems. In RRFB applications, the station operates as a standalone device and does not require the Duo Controller or Duo Power Supply.
Warranty
PedSafety warrants this product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of three (3) years from the date of original purchase by the end user.
