How to Remove or Service the Mast Assembly on a TC Mini Trailer

Overview: This guide provides straightforward instructions for safely removing the ECS module from the TC Mini trailer equipped with an iQ1500 Radar Speed Sign. The process involves specific steps to ensure the module is securely detached and removed, tailored for situations that require significant physical handling. Follow these directions to successfully manage the removal without damaging the equipment.
⚙️ Tools & Safety
- 9/16" wrench or socket
- Linchpin/cotter pin removal tool (or pliers)
- Ensure the sign is powered off before working near wiring or the battery
- Support the sign during mast movement to prevent sudden tipping
🔧 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Locate the Mast Pivot Assembly
The mast assembly is connected to the sign’s main frame using:
- A pivot bolt
- A quick-release pin (linchpin)
- A spring-loaded hinge bracket
These components secure the mast in its upright operating position.
2. Remove the Quick-Release Pin
Pull the linchpin out of the hinge bracket.
This frees the mast so it can pivot once the bolt is removed.
3. Remove the Pivot Bolt
Using a wrench or socket:
- Remove the nut
- Slide the bolt completely out of the bracket
- Ensure the mast is supported while removing the bolt
The mast is now free to rotate.
4. Push the Mast in the Direction Shown
According to the image:
➡️ Push the mast toward the left (as indicated by the red arrow).
This motion allows the mast to disengage from the bracket so the sign can be:
- Lowered
- Tilted for service
- Detached from the mount
📌 Important Notes
- Ensure all cables (radar, display, solar connections) have enough slack before moving the mast.
- Do not force the mast—if it resists, verify the pin and bolt are fully removed.
- Re-install hardware in reverse order after service.
- Always inspect the spring mechanism for wear before reassembly.
